Punt Club has arrived in Adelaide this morning to contest in a 1000 metre sprint race at Morphettville on Saturday. Trainer Pat Cannon reported that the horse travelled well and has settled in well to his new surroundings.
The race looks a good option for Punty especially with two of the main chances in Avanti Rose and El Sicario being scratched. Swiss Design also comes out. After the scratchings he comes into gate 3.
Punt Club has been racing consistently this campaign without winning so it was felt a drop back in grade would help Punt Club get back in the winners stall. This race is a Benchmark 75 race and with Punt Club having a rating 74, he was allotted 58.5kg.
We were able to book talented young Western Australian apprentice Fred Kersley for the ride. Fred is the grandson of legend trainer Fred Kersley (trainer of Northerly) and has been riding well in Melbourne for the Hayes stable. He'll take 2kg's off Punt Club's back bringing him in nicely on the weights.
We're hoping Punt Club can get a nice sit in behind the predicted good speed and come over the top of them late.
Main dangers in the race look to be the good Darwin horse He's Our Woody and Oamaru Owl.
Good luck to all connections.
