Punt Club heads to Felmenington today at his first attempt at headquarters.
He's in Race 6 of the program in a Benchmark 70 event over 1100 metres. With his rating being at 75 Punt Club was allocated 62.5kgs. We have in form apprentice Talia Hope onboard and she'll bring his weight back down to 59.5kgs.
His run last start at Sandown was really good and he (and all of the each way punters) were stiff to just miss third place. Suspect that race will hold up to be a very strong form race with the winner El Sicario a really smart horse who'll ping into some high class races this autumn.
This race is a very even affair. I like the form out of Punt Club's Sandown race here. There are some horses out of the Group 3 Standish but none stood out as if they would be dominant here.
For a race with 16 runners I can't see a stack of speed in this. My guess is that Punt Club will roll forward and with his high cruising speed leads (at the very least) the outside group of horses. For a horse having its first time down the straight, being hard up against the outside fence may not be the worst position.
May be one of those straight races where they all sit up on their mounts making it hard for the backmarkers at the end of the race to make up ground.
Now at peak fitness I rate Punt Club a strong each way hope in a race with plenty of chances. At 14/1 he looks again over the odds. First time at track and how the straight track plays is the query.
Pravro, Believing, Artie Fred, and Domesday Warrior are my tips for the multiples.
Good luck to everyone involved at headquarters today!
Punt Club puts his head out at Moonee Valley.
