Layne, Artie and Tommy fresh to races

August 24, 2017

Layne Star, Artie's Party and Autonomous will represent the Princess Park team over the next few days.

Layne's Star competes in the last today at Warnambool. She was sent to Princess Park for a short let up following her last start at Sandown where she performed below her best. She has freshened up nicely and trialed well at Burrumbeet on the heavy track last week winning her heat hard held.

Pat Cannon's new apprentice Leticia Griffin will have her first ride for the stable aboard Layne's Star today and will follow that up at Donald on Saturday aboard Autonomous. Leticia claims 4kg's so the weight relief on both should surely enhance their chances.

Autonomous resumes from a short spell over 1200 metres at Donald. With a liking for wet tracks the tough son of Primus wasn't given a long spell. The thought being he may as well be racing while there is some give n the tracks.

Last campaign was a long one for Tommy. After having five starts for his old trainer Darren Weir, he was transferred to Pat for another 5 starts where he had a win and two placings.

He's drawn poorly in gate 12 on Saturday but he has good gate speed so the plan will be to push forward and hopefully sit outside the leader. Leticia's 4kg claim should assist.

Artie's Party is also first up from a spell on Saturday and will travel to Adelaide for his first up assignment. He also trialed well on the heavy ground at Burrumbeet last week winning his heat.

Last preparation he won impressively first up at Geelong in a Class 1, so connections will be hopeful he can repeat the dose.

It's great for owners that they will be able to tune into free to air channel for the races at Adelaide Saturday. The network has recently started telecasting Adelaide as a part of it's Saturday premium broadcast.

Group 1 winning hoop Dean Yendall takes the ride on Artie's Party on Saturday and he has drawn barrier 9 in a field of 17. This barrier should suit his get back and run on racing style. He's rated a 9/1 chance.

Good luck to all our owners!
