Punt Club too tough

March 17, 2017

After Punt Club missed the start by half a length I thought our chances were shot.

It's hard to make those kind of mistakes over the short course of 955 meters and be able to recover. Our plan to position on pace were out the window and we were second last in a spot Punt Club has just never found himself in before.

But back in the saddle it seemed Damien Lane wasn't concerned. Frosty was as cool as ice letting Punt Club find his feet early and then gradually sliding forward as they approached the turn.

In a ding dong battle to the line Punt Club pulled out all his determination to win by a head. It was a very tough win.

But while jockey and horse were an enormous part of the win last night, a lot of the credit for the big win has to land with trainer Pat Cannon.

As owners in the horse know, we were touch and go to even start in the race last night. Despite problems with a troublesome foot Pat and the team at Ballarat did an amazing job to get Punt Club to the races last night.

The win takes Punt Club's earnings to over $130,000 and continues Pat's great form as a trainer.

Since moving the racing team to Ballarat at the start of this racing season, from limited runners, Pat has landed 6 winners and 17 placings. This represents a winning strike rate of 16% and a place strike rate of 44%.

A big congratulations to everyone involved in the win last night!
