Congratulations to all connections of Southern Sunday following his big win at Geelong yesterday.
Despite drawing well in barrier 4, he had to overcome quite a few difficulties in the race, including missing the start and being bumped around on the turn. To the credit of jockey Jamie Anstice, he kept the horse in control, got clear at the top of the straight and powered him through to win by 2 lengths.
Well done to Pat Cannon and the team, including Jamie. Jamie regularly rides trackwork for Princess Park at Seymour and does a lot of work with Southern Sunday. He rode the horse in his winning trial at Tatura last week so with the heavier weight allocation yesterday, we were fortunate to be able to keep Jamie onboard.
Southern Sunday is a burly 6 year old horse who has overcome 2 tendon injuries throughout his racing career.
Geelong's synthetic surface benefits him, whilst our newly acquired treadmill has added a new dimension to his training regime in that he can work without the added stress of carrying weight.
Pat will make a decision in the next few days on where he'll head to next but we're looking forward to cheering him on again in the not too distant future!
