The Pat Cannon trained Artie's Party scored his first win for owners in a VOBIS Gold maiden over 1200 metres at Echuca yesterday.
Everything went to plan yesterday with experienced jockey Craig Robertson settling just off the speed. The John O'Shea trained Goldophin horse Moher set the speed and looked like it was going to run away with the race on turning, but Artie's Party was going to have none of that. He pinned his ears back and despite a few bumps down the straight he let down really well and was strong over the last 200 metres to score by half a length.
Obviously any win is great but this one was all the more special given we were racing for VOBIS and VOBIS Gold bonuses. The race had a $15,000 total purse but also had a VOBIS bonus of $9,000 plus a VOBIS Gold bonus of $20,000 for qualified horses. These made the race worth $44,000 which is a great windfall for the syndicate.
Owners can can expect to pocket around $26,400 in prize-money which is awesome!
An excited bunch of owners, many first time owners, celebrated hard on and off the course in a particularly satisfying win given the lack of luck at his first two outings.
After pulling up super this morning we've decided to throw in a nomination to run in the G2 VRC Sires Produce Stakes over 1400 metres at Flemington next week. We just feel it's worth taking a look at how the nominations for this race stack up. It would be unlikely that we race at Flemington due mainly to the short back up (seven days between runs for a 2yo can be asking a bit), but we felt we should at least nominate.
The more likely option will be a trip to Adelaide in three weeks time to contest in the G3 $120,000 Breeders Stakes run over 1200 metres.

Meanwhile three year old stablemate Douglassed improved dramatically second up and finished close up in a 0-58 Handicap at Echuca yesterday. Douglassed is improving all the time and we expect him to improve further with more racing and over more ground.
