A stroke of genuis from veteran Princess Park owner Justin Docherty has led to Northern Saint's recent back to back wins.
After losing form before Christmas, Justin recommended a short freshen up at Princess Park (instead of the standard 4-6 week spell) just might turn things around.
The freshen up certainly has done her the world of good with Northern Saint thrashing her rivals at Seymour when returning from an eight-week let-up on February 5.
Chris Symons stuck with Northern Saint at Sandown on Wednesday in a strong race, and adopted the same tactics as he did at Seymour, giving the mare a chance to travel comfortably midfield and saving her for a final finishing burst.
The four-year-old showed a neat turn of foot when Symons asked her to quicken at the 300m to swiftly assume control of the race but the talented Miss Softhands had the last crack at her late in the race.
Northern Saint showed plenty of fight to hold off Miss Softhands to score narrowly, notching her third win and maiden city success.
Northern Saint earned a $21,000 winner’s cheque for her terrific Sandown effort, taking her stakes tally to more than $65,000.
Congratulations to Northern Saint’s owners, the Ellerton Zahra team and all involved with her latest success.
