This race is a Benchmark 75 race and with Punt Club having a rating 74, he was allotted 58.5kg.

We were able to book talented young Western Australian apprentice Fred Kersley for the ride. Suspect that race will hold up to be a very strong form race with the winner El Sicario a really smart horse who'll ping into some high class races this autumn.

This race is a very even affair. I like the form out of Punt Club's Sandown race here. There are some horses out of the Group 3 Standish but none stood out as if they would be dominant here.

For a race with 16 runners I can't see a stack of speed in this. My guess is that Punt Club will roll forward and with his high cruising speed leads (at the very least) the outside group of horses. For a horse having its first time down the straight, being hard up against the outside fence may not be the worst position.

May be one of those straight races where they all sit up on their mounts making it hard for the backmarkers at the end of the race to make up ground.

Now at peak fitness I rate Punt Club a strong each way hope in a race with plenty of chances. At 14/1 he looks again over the odds. First time at track and how the straight track plays is the query.

Pravro, Believing, Artie Fred, and Domesday Warrior are my tips for the multiples.

Good luck to everyone involved at headquarters today!

Punt Club puts his head out at Moonee Valley.

A Tidy Win

A big congratulations to a bunch of very patient bunch of owners on the big win of She's Tidy yesterday at Hamilton. It was well timed. She was within about five lengths of the favourite as they rounded the turn and she just kept coming at them to win the race by a head on the line.

It was a great ride by WA apprentice Jordan Turner. He kept Tidy balanced and was able to get everything out of her. After racking up 62 wins in town in Perth, he's riding extremely well and I can't see it taking too much longer for him to outride his 1.5kg claim in the city.

As for She's Tidy I'm looking forward to see how she copes with a step up in distance now. The way she was able to sustain a long run yesterday was very encouraging for a horse we have always felt is going to be a 2000 metre plus type of horse.

Congratulations again to all involved. He was pushed forward from a wide gate to settle just off speed and that effort told at the end of the race. He's again drawn a wide gate.

Similiarly equal favoiurite El Sicario drew out at Moonee Valley but despite this ran a massive race, tiring late (and so he should have) to finish just a length off the winner. He's drawn wide again at Sandown but gates over 1000 metres at Sandown are not that crucial with just the one slight turn from the 1000 metre chute.

The other horse equal favourite at 6/1 with Sovereign Duke and El Sicario is Kakanui. He had the lovely suck run in behind the speed at Moonee Valley when he ran past El Sicario to score well.

Punt Club has been rated a 21/1 chance in this after his last start 5th at Moonee Valley. He travelled wide with no cover in that race and the effort told late. Dale Smith takes the ride for barrier 7.

In a small field there looks to be several chances.

A lack of speed in the race means that the Gai Waterhouse trained Potentate will more than likely get its' own way in front and can dictate terms. It drops back in class after racing in a strong open event last start.

Californiagroundcru was stopped in its tracks last start and did well to pick itself up and finish fourth in the same race She's Tidy contested in last start. A repeat performance here sees it fighting out the finish.

War Piglet looked good coming home from last at Warrnambool and will appreciate the step up to a mile.

First starter from the Busuttin Young stable is an interesting runner. A kiwi bred to get over a cups distance it's first up over a mile and there has been a little bit of support for it.

So yes an even sort of race with no stand outs in my opinion. Hoping She's Tidy can be fighting out the finish. She's rated a $7.50 chance.

She's Tidy is rated a $7.50 chance in a mile maiden at Werribee today.

Meanwhile Equiamico will travel to Nhill on Boxing Day to contest in a maiden over 1150 metres.

Equiamico debuted at Kyneton. The occasion of his first race day got a bit too much for him and he may have run his race before the gates opened. A real handful pre-race and then again when being loaded into the barriers, we hope his manners can improve Tuesday. The logic here is that a proven stallion has ready buyers given his progeny have been successful on the track.

As for buying the stock of first season sires, well nobody can pot his progeny yet. He simply hasn't had any to the track. I guess the theory amongst the marketers is that he's going to be a great stallion until proven otherwise!

So it was with some trepidation that we ended up buying a filly by Darley stallion Dawn Approach at the Inglis Great Southern Sale in May this year.

The filly, out of the Exceed And Excel mare Big Birdie, was a really athletic and strong type of weanling. She was a stand out of all the weanlings we inspected.

Only thing was we were going to have to step into the uncomfort zone and buy a weanling by a second crop sire.

We ended setting a lower mark for this filly (due her being by a second crop sire) and she was secured for $44,000.

Six months later and it looks like the decision to venture into the uncomfort zone could pay dividends with a daughter of New Approach hitting the Sydney racing scene.

After winning her first start at a maiden in Canterbury by 5 and a half lengths, Gongs was a short priced favourite on Saturday in a $100,000 open 2yo race at Rosehill.

After pinging the gates from a wide alley Gongs sat three wide with no cover early but a smart Kerrin McEvoy asked her to come back and she settled one off the fence just off the speed in third position. She never looked in danger in the straight and went on to win the race in good fashion by a length and a half.

Godolphin representative Darren Beadman was full of praise for the daughter of Dawn Approach.

"They didn't hand it to her on a silver platter, she had to do some work and still got the job done,"

"I'm a huge fan of Dawn Approach and I think he's got a very special filly here."

The demeanour of the filly, she's nice and relaxed, she conserves her energy." "She has a real touch of brilliance and class about her. Mentally she's like a four year-old mare!"

Gongs is now equal 3rd favourite for the Golden Slipper at 15/1. And his sire leaped up the first season sire table and now stands in second position behind Spirit Of Boom.

And now breeders who have a yearling by New Approach are grinning ear to ear.

Let's just hope a couple more of Dawn Approach progeny win some more races leading up to the sales.

Or is that being just plain greedy!

(UPDATE - Since this story was written Dawn Approach had another city winner in Sydney with a horse called Condemned. I call them "the take more time, think it can stay horse."

The first one I had was a mare called Lacey Underall.

The problem with these horses is that they rarely show anything early.

Most trials are over the sprint distances of around 800 - 1000 metres. It can be disheartening to say the least to watch a young horse, who's gene's say I prefer a marathon than a sprint race, compete in these trials. They normally don't show a lot.

One can make the mistake of sacking it too early. The horse seems slow and one paced.

The other thing with stayers is that their physical make up is that they take a lot of time to physically mature. Ever wondered why it's cheaper to buy a staying type at the sales?

A stayer is many ways is not dissimilar to that raw tall key position kid who just got drafted to an AFL list. This kid is not an automatic starter in next years team. In fact he's normally a long way off. Chances are he'll spend most of the next 2-3 years in the twos and loads of time building himself up in the gym.

So like the 18 year old kid, a young stayer can spend the first 2-3 preparations physically maturing and in training to be prepared to race over a longer trip.

Many young horses simply can't stand up to the training and racing that it takes to get over a longer trip. They may have 3-4 races in a preparation but never get out to a distance that best suits them. You see some encouraging runs over shorter distances but the horse will generally get to the end of its preparation and be ready for a break. No different to how a young AFL team gets tired at the end of a season. The stayer and the young AFL key position player simply are not seasoned enough.

For the trainer it's a really hard one. He or she may have a hunch that the horse should get over some ground but the facts are you never truly know until you get it over a trip.

So back to Lacey Underall.

She had a trial as a two year old. Ran a long last. I remember leaving Flemington after the trial that day. I thought to myself, "Gee I hope she can stay!"

And stay she did. It did take time for her to break her maiden. We had to get her out to 1600 metres and travel to Murtoa to get the win.

With each preparation she improved as she was able to be raced over more ground. The further the races were, the better she raced.

At her fourth racing preparation, she ran a nose second to Gallic in the Adelaide Cup of 2007.

The year after, in her sixth racing preparation she won the Adelaide Cup.

It was a good lesson in learning to be patient.

Lacey Underall wins the Adelaide Cup over 3200 metres in 2008.

So we have accepted for She's Tidy at Werribee on Sunday. She has always looked to me like the "take more time, think it can stay type of horse."

She's into her third racing preparation. She has raced 9 times for 3 seconds and 2 thirds. This time in she's stronger, eating better and able to get through her training better than ever. She keeps improving. This is expected as she continues to mature.

She's Tidy ran a nice third over 1200 metres first up. She heads to Werribee in a race over 1400 metres and we've drawn perfectly in barrier 3. In form jockey Chris Symons gets the ride.

This race is not an easy assignment. It come up as a very strong maiden. Grunt looks the one to beat. It has a placing to subsequent Group 1 winner Aloisia (it won the 1000 Guineas) back in May at Flemington. It surely runs as the short priced favourite. There are also some well bred first starters from the Hayes and Busuttin stables.

I'm sure She's Tidy will run a good race on Sunday. She'll need to get rolling early to get to top speed and will run a good honest race. But I'm tipping her best is yet to come.

We have a hunch that She's Tidy should get over some ground. We'll need to be patient.

You can view the form for the race HERE.

She's Tidy races at Werribee in a maiden over 1400 metres.

Yearlings to be prepared for Adelaide Magic Millions

Princess Park will head to the sales with a team of 12 yearlings for the Adelaide Magic Millions Sales in March 2018. Let's take a look at where the team is at.

After Punt Club's good preparation over summer last year which netted him two wins at The Valley we decided to set Punty for a 955 metre race at his favourite track on Cox Plate Day. But some wear and tear issues meant he needed more time out in the paddock. Could be a blessing in disguise as he'll be resuming after the spring carnival when most of the good horses are spelling. Punt Club is now doing well in training at Ballarat and Pat has selected a race in the back half of November at The Valley for his first up assignment. Expect him to be racing at The Valley regularly on a Friday night.

Surprisingly She's Tidy is still a maiden. A slow maturing lightly raced daughter of Sebring she's showed ability on the racetrack. Placed four of her eight starts it is hoped she can get over some ground. Plenty of Sebring's progeny get over distance and we reckon this could be Tidy's breakthrough preparation. I'm tipping she can be a handy mare at around 2000 metres, and at that distance range the opposition definitely gets thinner. She's in work at Ballarat and isn't far off trialling.

The best bred horse in the team is still proving to be a handful. So Electric who is by So You Think and out of a mare that has produced a Group 1 winner, has always been a nervous and hard to do anything with type of horse. She's bred to get over a cup distance but to do that she must learn to relax in her work and then on the racetrack. She's back in work at Nagambie (video below) and she's doing dressage and building up her fitness gradually. Now four years old we're hoping with maturity and more racetrack experience she can turn the corner.

The Reward For Effort / Muppets filly has a tendency to find trouble. Her latest incident saw her ending up at the equine hospital after a kick to her hock caused a cut which became infected. It's just another hiccup in a string of small issues this horse has endured. Now nicknamed (not so) "Lucky" following her latest incident she's back on track at Nagambie and she'll head to Ballarat once she has a solid fitness base. Really like what this filly has shown on the track. She's a lovely moving filly (see video below) and has shown enough in her gallops to suggest owners can have some fun with her. Still 20% left in her if anyone wants to race her with us.

Autonomous raced last Friday at Warrnambool and looked to hit the line well beaten 2.5 lengths. He is a honest type of horse that loves the wet tracks. Pat will try and find some races over the next month for him that may suit and then the horse will be given a good spell in preparation for a winter campaign.

Layne's Star is back at Ballarat after a freshen up at Princess Park. She won her maiden well at Ballarat at her last campaign and given she likes the sting out of the tracks we reckon she could perform well at Moonee Valley on the well cushioned surface. She's not far off a first up run.

Equiamico is an unraced brother of the Flying Doormat. He's grown into a lovely type of horse and he should be making his debut in the next month or two.

Rosebank (in the video below) resumes pre-training Monday after a good seven week spell. The unraced daughter of Helmet looks in great order and we'd expect her to be making her racetrack debut over summer.

The Wild Wild Westlooked amazing when she departed Princess Park last week after six weeks in pre-training. I feel that we finally worked out how to best ride this filly at her last preparation. She has shown a liking to being ridden back early. Her best runs have been when she has been ridden this way and she has found the line well on every occasion she's been ridden back. A win for her is not far away.

Think I'm Dreaming (in the video below) is currently spelling at Princess Park but close to resuming training. At her last campaign for Henry Dwyer at Caulfield, she had a tendency to want to over-race in her trials and also on debut. Given her pedigree says she should get over ground, she'll be taught to relax better. Ridden quietly I'm sure this filly will show a dramatic improvement. She looks super and I'm looking forward to this preparation.

Bombay Bullet had a good educational campaign over winter at Ballarat. Currently spelling at Millford Thoroughbreds she had three barrier trials and showed enough to suggest she can be an improve at her next campaign.

Artie's Party races tomorrow at Stawell in a 0-58 over 1100 metres. Artie's had a freshen up at Nagambie after he ran five lengths behind the winner in a benchmark 70 race at Ballarat. He looks much better suited in this and the claim for Lucinda Doodt brings him back down to 58.5kg's. He's drawn a nice gate so expect him to be ridden off speed and hoping he can be hitting the line.

Heading to the sales in 2018

Autonomous and Artie playing at home Sunday

Pat Cannon will race two of the team at our home track of Ballarat on Sunday.Artie's Party races in a Benchmark 70 race over 1000 metres. He spaced his rivals in each of his starts.

The boom colt took his unbeaten record to four wins last week. Jockey Dwayne Dunn weaved some magic down the Flemington straight. Magic only possible with some serious horse power under saddle.

At this stage trainer Tony McEvroy has all eyes focussed on the stallion making race, the Group 1 Caufiled Guineas.

Tony has indicated that the horse will more than likely have another lead up run in the Listed Caulfield Guineas Prelude over 1400 metres before his Group 1 assualt.

The Guineas is the obvious target for this campaign. A race for three year olds run over a mile and at set weights, winning this race would see Royal Symphony's value as a stallion sour. Guessing he'd be valued around the $20M mark at that point. Easy decision from here would be to spell the horse with a view towards the autumn.

That would be the temptation. It's also the easy way out.

Unfortunately it would leave racing fans drolling at what could of been.

Possible a bigger temptation could loom if Royal Symphony won the Guineas and pulled up in good order after the race.

With the Group 1 Cox Plate just two weeks later, and with $3,050,000 prizemoney on offer, ordinarily connections would be chomping at the bit to take out Australia's best race.

As a three year old, Royal Symphony would carry just 49.5 kilograms.

But there's just one big hurdle to get to the major prize.

Her name is Winx and she'll go down as one of the all time greats. In fact she's already there.

She can be mentioned in the same sentence as Phal Lap, Tuilloch, Kingston Town and Black Caviar.

Winx is a freak racehorse and she loves The Valley.

She has demolished her rivals by massive margins at both her runs in the Cox Plate and many beleive she only needs to show up raceday to equal Kingston Town's record of three Cox Plate wins.

Tony McEvoy has already indicated that he's not overly keen on taking on the great mare with Royal Symphony. He has stated that a whipping at the hands of Winx could dint the colt's confidence.

But imagine if Royal Symphony improved over the longer distance of the Cox Plate. His racing style suggets that he could.

Imagine for a minute that with the light weight, he could match it with Winx as they galloped past the school as they approched the tight Moonee Valley turn.

Imagine the roar of the crowd. The energy of one of the world's greatest ampetheatres would be there for all to feel.

For mine it's not too hard to imagine that Royal Symphony could match it with Winx come Cox Plate Day.

Of course, more will be known over the coming weeks as we get closer to that great race.

I for one would love to have the conundrum that will face Team McEvoy and his team of owners as their champ progresses through the spring.

Dwayne Dunn skakes his head in disbelief as Royal Symphony wins last week. Leticia claims 4kg's so the weight relief on both should surely enhance their chances.

Layne's Star trialing at Burrumbeet last week in her preparation for Adelaide Saturday.

Autonomous resumes from a short spell over 1200 metres at Donald. With a liking for wet tracks the tough son of Primus wasn't given a long spell. The thought being he may as well be racing while there is some give n the tracks.

Last campaign was a long one for Tommy. After having five starts for his old trainer Darren Weir, he was transferred to Pat for another 5 starts where he had a win and two placings.

He's drawn poorly in gate 12 on Saturday but he has good gate speed so the plan will be to push forward and hopefully sit outside the leader. Leticia's 4kg claim should assist.

Autonomous wins his trial at Burrumbeet last week in her preparation for Donald Saturday.

Artie's Party is also first up from a spell on Saturday and will travel to Adelaide for his first up assignment. He also trialed well on the heavy ground at Burrumbeet last week winning his heat.

Last preparation he won impressively first up at Geelong in a Class 1, so connections will be hopeful he can repeat the dose.

It's great for owners that they will be able to tune into free to air channel Racing.com for the races at Adelaide Saturday. The network has recently started telecasting Adelaide as a part of it's Saturday premium broadcast.

Group 1 winning hoop Dean Yendall takes the ride on Artie's Party on Saturday and he has drawn barrier 9 in a field of 17. She was a $950,000 purchase as a yearling. From gate 2 with D Dunn aboard and with recent Flemington jump out win to her name, the bookies have got her on top. There is plenty of form around the others with Plato running a place at debut after being well supported. Bam is another who is nicely bred and has also showed good toe at recent jump outs. It's a strong maiden with a lot of chances.

Think I'm Dreaming may find some these horses a touch too sharp over the 1210 metres tomorrow, but don't be surprised if she runs a very cheeky race. I used to ride one or two horses at the track for Wendy before I went to high school.

I always had horses growing up, I loved being outside but It wasn’t until I began riding track work, gallops and trials that the love for racing really came about, I became more and more determined on having a career as a jockey. I started working for Dan O’Sullivan full time when I finished school.

I was successfully accepted into Racing Victoria’s Program in 2014 and began my apprenticeship at age 19, making sure I had a few years experience riding track work and trials. I believe I am more focused and determined now than ever after the taste of success in my career so far riding 3 winners, with my biggest highlight riding a winner on my first ride at Donald aboard Captain Crackerjak. The biggest part of my interest in racing is my absolute passion for horses.

Is your family involved?

I am the first person in my family to have a career in racing, although horses have always been a huge part of our lives. I have been around horses as long as I can remember. Growing up I did pony club and competing in mostly eventing and showing. I still compete now.

What are your racing ambitions?

To outride my 4kg claimTo ride a winner for PatTo be making the most of every opportunityTo complete my apprenticeship

Whats the one race you would love to win?

The one race I would love to win is the Cox Plate. It’s a race I have always admired watching and the atmosphere looks unbelievable on the day.

Do you have weight issues, or are you a natural light weight?

I am very lucky to be a natural light weight, walking around at 51kgs.

What are you hobbies outside of racing?

My hobbies outside of racing are mostly riding, retraining and being around my own horses, they bring me a lot of happiness. I also love being outdoors, travelling, road trips and spending time with my mates. My favourite TV series to watch is Wentworth, I'm beyond hooked and just cant get enough of it!

Leticia is looking forward to being a part of Princess Park’s Ballarat team and gaining more experience around the track as she progresses through her apprenticeship. The So You Think filly hasn’t shown much in its trials, but it will be wanting more time and distance according to its trainer.

“Her trial form is not great, probably done more at home than at the trials,” Cannon said. “She needs to get over a bit further than the 900m at the trials.

“She’s a little highly-strung filly so a day at the races and the experience will do her a world of good.”

Cannon wasn’t mixing his words when assessing its chances of winning on Sunday.

“She’s not a good chance, could be running on though,” he said. “In my opinion she’s one of those classic staying type of fillies, if her brain would let her to do it.

“She’s had a little bit of an injury going back six months, that stopped her preparation – just being so highly strung she hasn’t made it easy for us.

“I don’t know what she’ll do on Sunday.”

His third filly to run at Ballarat is She’s Tidy, which relished the rise in distance last start and Cannon will again run it at the mile on Sunday before potentially stepping it up over more ground next preparation.

“Probably next preparation (stepping up in distance),” Cannon said. “Her work was good this morning, she’s also going to be one of those classic staying types.”

Cannon thinks the three-year-old by Sebring could make its way to Saturday class and is expecting improvement with experience.

“She might edge into Saturday class races in the off-season, but she’s just improved every preparation and it’d be good to get her maiden out of the way,” Cannon said.

“We were confident last start, but she ran into a good one.”

The staying distances beckon in the future for She’s Tidy, but until it scores its maiden victory, Cannon is happy to keep it at the mile.

“We’ll keep her at the mile trying to get that win,” Cannon said. “Sunday will decide whether we try her over a longer journey or if we just put her out in the paddock, but she’s improved which is also a good sign with those staying fillies.”

The Wild Wild West has been close to breaking maiden grades after running a close second last start and it gets another chance at some VOBIS bonus money.

It hasn’t yet placed in three attempts at the 1300m distance, but there were encouraging signs when it finished fourth over this trip at Geelong in April.

“1200m would suit her, but there wasn’t much suitable around for her,” Cannon explained. “It’s a VOBIS race and she’s run well over 1300m before and she’s quite fit at the moment.

“We take the blinkers off and claim with her (Liam Riordan).”

When asked which of the four fillies has the best chance of winning this weekend, Cannon had no hesitation is stating Layne’s Star as his best hope.

“On trial form I think Layne’s Star is a good chance,” Cannon said. “With the claim it brings her right into the race.

“Her trial was good the other day, but her work was better on Tuesday, so if she puts the right foot forward she will be hard to beat.”

STORY BY DARYL CURNOW, HORSEBETTING.COM.AU

Autonomous wins at Casterton

Great win by Autonomous at Casterton on Monday.Well done to all his owners, to up-and-coming jockey Lucinda Doodt and to trainer Pat Cannon and the team at Ballarat! The 1200m race was his fourth start for us after he transferred to our stable from the Darren Weir camp. She's been well educated now and considering she's bred to get over longer distances, she showed good ability at her 800 metre jump out's at Caulfield. After developing shin soreness she was tipped out for a spell with the spring in mind. And what a wonderful job her sire So You think is doing at stud. With his first crop of foals now three year old he has already two Group 1 winners to his resume including Inference who was a winner of time honoured Randwick Guineas. With a list of black type performers on the rise and a steady string of winners So You Think is now leading Second Season sire ahead of stallions Foxwedge and Smart Missile. These weanlings will be grown out at Princess Park and be prepared to be sold at the Inglis Premier Sale in Melbourne in March 2018.

Lead by experienced bloodstock agent Sheamus Mills, we traveled to the Sydney Inglis Weanling Sale two weeks ago and kicked off the buying.

With only 110 lots presented for sale, opportunities to buy were limited but I am happy to report we did secure one filly for the syndicate.

The filly is by proven stallion Choisir and out of the Thorn Park mare Immortalize. A lovely walker, with a strong shoulder and a massive back end, this filly is by the right stallion and we are confident that she should grow into a marketable yearling. We brought well paying just $26,000 for her.

As well as being a phenomenal racehorse, Choisir has a terrific track record of siring stakes winners worldwide.

His best performed racehorses in Australia include Starspangledbanner, Sacred Choice and Japonisme. He landed another Group 1 winner just last week when two year old colt The Mission won The Champagne Stakes in Sydney over 1600 metres. The Mission is the 12th Group I winner for Choisir, who stands at Coolmore this spring at a fee of $29,700.

Looking ahead, the next weanling sale is on the Gold Coast on the 25th and 26th May. The catalogue is packed with 554 lots. The final sale is in Melbourne late June and word has it that it will have around 400-500 lots. So plenty of opportunity to add to our team.

Due to client demand we are making available an additional 5 shares in the syndicate.

We will be holding an information lunch in Melbourne in the next few weeks. Frosty was as cool as ice letting Punt Club find his feet early and then gradually sliding forward as they approached the turn. In a ding dong battle to the line Punt Club pulled out all his determination to win by a head. It was a very tough win. But while jockey and horse were an enormous part of the win last night, a lot of the credit for the big win has to land with trainer Pat Cannon. As owners in the horse know, we were touch and go to even start in the race last night. Despite problems with a troublesome foot Pat and the team at Ballarat did an amazing job to get Punt Club to the races last night. The win takes Punt Club's earnings to over $130,000 and continues Pat's great form as a trainer. Since moving the racing team to Ballarat at the start of this racing season, from limited runners, Pat has landed 6 winners and 17 placings. This represents a winning strike rate of 16% and a place strike rate of 44%. Demand for quality thoroughbred racehorses is on the rise. We have seen a strong level of demand from overseas buyers and with local prize-money increasing, local trainers and syndicators continue to buy up big at sales across Australia.

With this in mind in 2017 Princess Park will be buying a select group of weanlings at the upcoming weanling sales across Australia. The plan will be to prepare this group of horses to be sold around 10 months later at the Inglis Premier Sale in Melbourne in 2018. We have assembled an experienced team to get the job done and we are excited about what the future holds. Princess Park will be co-investing with our clients. It's a unique opportunity for our owners to get involved at the ground level while also gaining invaluable experience into the thoroughbred breeding industry. It also represents an opportunity for investors to have the odds of making a return tipped in their favor. The weanlings will be grown out at our Nagambie property and prepared for sale utilizing the facilities at the property. Caught on a limb, jockey Jacob Rule really had no option but to push forward. Eventually he was able to settle outside the leader but the energy spent having to make this move early in the race meant there wasn't much left in the tank when Douglassed entered the straight. Despite this Doug never gave gave up and toughed it out finishing fourth.

In other news over the weekend Punt Club raced at Caulfield in a quality three year old handicap. He led the field but punctured late finishing 4.7 lengths from the winner. Suspect Punty is better suited at this stage of his career to races over 1000 - 1100 metres. He pinned his ears back and despite a few bumps down the straight he let down really well and was strong over the last 200 metres to score by half a length.

Obviously any win is great but this one was all the more special given we were racing for VOBIS and VOBIS Gold bonuses. The race had a $15,000 total purse but also had a VOBIS bonus of $9,000 plus a VOBIS Gold bonus of $20,000 for qualified horses. These made the race worth $44,000 which is a great windfall for the syndicate.

Owners can can expect to pocket around $26,400 in prize-money which is awesome!

An excited bunch of owners, many first time owners, celebrated hard on and off the course in a particularly satisfying win given the lack of luck at his first two outings.

After pulling up super this morning we've decided to throw in a nomination to run in the G2 VRC Sires Produce Stakes over 1400 metres at Flemington next week. We just feel it's worth taking a look at how the nominations for this race stack up. It would be unlikely that we race at Flemington due mainly to the short back up (seven days between runs for a 2yo can be asking a bit), but we felt we should at least nominate.

The more likely option will be a trip to Adelaide in three weeks time to contest in the G3 $120,000 Breeders Stakes run over 1200 metres. You can view the post-race video report with Pat and Craig Robertson here. You can watch the replay of the race here. Meanwhile three year old stablemate Douglassed improved dramatically second up and finished close up in a 0-58 Handicap at Echuca yesterday. Douglassed is improving all the time and we expect him to improve further with more racing and over more ground.

You can view Douglassed post-race report here and his replay of his race here.

Saint hits purple patch

A stroke of genuis from veteran Princess Park owner Justin Docherty has led to Northern Saint's recent back to back wins. After losing form before Christmas, Justin recommended a short freshen up at Princess Park (instead of the standard 4-6 week spell) just might turn things around. The freshen up certainly has done her the world of good with Northern Saint thrashing her rivals at Seymour when returning from an eight-week let-up on February 5.Chris Symons stuck with Northern Saint at Sandown on

A stroke of genuis from veteran Princess Park owner Justin Docherty has led to Northern Saint's recent back to back wins.

After losing form before Christmas, Justin recommended a short freshen up at Princess Park (instead of the standard 4-6 week spell) just might turn things around.

The freshen up certainly has done her the world of good with Northern Saint thrashing her rivals at Seymour when returning from an eight-week let-up on February 5.

Chris Symons stuck with Northern Saint at Sandown on Wednesday in a strong race, and adopted the same tactics as he did at Seymour, giving the mare a chance to travel comfortably midfield and saving her for a final finishing burst.

The four-year-old showed a neat turn of foot when Symons asked her to quicken at the 300m to swiftly assume control of the race but the talented Miss Softhands had the last crack at her late in the race.

Northern Saint showed plenty of fight to hold off Miss Softhands to score narrowly, notching her third win and maiden city success.

Northern Saint earned a $21,000 winner’s cheque for her terrific Sandown effort, taking her stakes tally to more than $65,000.

Congratulations to Northern Saint’s owners, the Ellerton Zahra team and all involved with her latest success.
